Portland, Oregon – A sweltering heat wave will grip western Oregon through 10 p.m. Monday, with temperatures soaring as high as 97 degrees across the Portland Metro, Columbia Gorge, and Willamette Valley.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for over two dozen counties, including Clackamas, Lane, Hood River, and Multnomah. The highest risk stretches from downtown Portland and Vancouver eastward through Troutdale, Corbett, and into the Hood River Valley.

Cities like Salem, Eugene, and Albany are expected to see mid-90s heat, while the foothills of the Cascades could feel even hotter due to reduced airflow. The Moderate HeatRisk designation indicates potential health impacts for sensitive groups, especially those without air conditioning or adequate hydration.

Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous activity between noon and 6 p.m., check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Nighttime cooling will be limited, especially in urban areas.

This early June heat burst could stress local healthcare systems and energy use. Relief is expected overnight, but more advisories could follow this week if the pattern continues.
