Seattle, Washington – Hot and dry conditions are baking western Washington today, with temperatures soaring into the upper 80s and low 90s, triggering a Heat Advisory for much of the Puget Sound region until 10 p.m. Monday. Residents in Seattle, Everett, and Tacoma should expect sweltering highs and elevated risks of heat-related illness, especially in the foothills of the Cascades where the mercury could climb even higher.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, the advisory spans areas including Snohomish, King, Pierce, Thurston, and Lewis counties. Overnight lows in the 50s and 60s will provide limited relief. The combination of heat and low overnight cooling can increase the risk for vulnerable groups without access to air conditioning or hydration.

Local authorities urge people to stay indoors during peak heat, check on neighbors, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. In addition, the cool temperatures of lakes and rivers—still in the 40s and 50s—pose serious cold shock and drowning risks despite the warm air. Swimmers should wear life jackets and never swim alone.

The Heat Advisory expires tonight, but lingering warmth and continued safety concerns could prompt further advisories in the days ahead.
