Hammond, IN – A Portage man was identified as the victim in a fatal crash on westbound I-80 in Hammond on Wednesday.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the incident occurred around 3:27 a.m. near mile marker 1.1. The victim, Alfred Follow III, 69, sustained multiple blunt force traumatic injuries and mechanical asphyxia. He was pronounced dead at 4:05 a.m. by the Lake County Coroner’s Investigator.
Family members positively identified Follow at the Lake County Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center. A forensic autopsy was conducted on Wednesday at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point.
The fatal crash involved multiple agencies, including the Indiana State Police and the Hammond Fire Department. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident, urging drivers to exercise caution on the roads.
