Lowell, IN – A residential fire in Eagle Creek Township claimed the life of 67-year-old Richard Leoni on Tuesday evening.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Leoni’s body was found in a mobile home at 100 Baldwin Lot 69, heavily involved in flames. The fire broke out around 6:28 p.m., and despite the efforts of the Lowell Fire Department and 13 assisting fire departments, Leoni succumbed to smoke inhalation.
A forensic autopsy conducted Wednesday confirmed the cause of death as accidental. The investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing, involving multiple agencies, including the Lowell Fire Department Arson Investigation Division and the Indiana State Fire Marshal.
