Merrillville, IN – A person of interest has been taken into custody in connection with recent threats made against staff members in the Merrillville Community School Corporation, police confirmed Monday.

According to an update from the Merrillville Police Department, the arrest comes after swift action and a joint investigation between law enforcement and school officials. Authorities said the threats had targeted a school resource officer, a principal, and a security officer, prompting increased patrols and security measures across Merrillville schools earlier this week.

Police emphasized that the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation and noted that schools remain secure. Officers credited community cooperation and internal collaboration for helping quickly address the situation and restore a sense of safety.

“We are committed to keeping you informed and will provide further updates as needed,” the department stated. School operations are continuing as normal, with authorities assuring families that all necessary precautions remain in place.
