Kankakee, IL – Kankakee police have made an arrest following a weekend burglary involving copper wiring stolen from a local home.
According to police, officers responded Saturday to a home in the 200 block of South Warren after the property owner reported that someone had forced open an electrical box and stolen copper wiring over the past several weeks. Later that same day, officers were approached by a man who said he had video of the burglary.
On Monday, police were called to a recycling facility on West South Tec Drive, where a man was reportedly attempting to sell copper wire. Officers identified the man as 36-year-old Michael P. Attwood, who allegedly matched the description of the burglary suspect.
Police say that during the arrest, Attwood was found carrying needle-nosed pliers, a flashlight, a crowbar, and black gloves either on his person or in his backpack. Officers arrested him for residential burglary and possession of burglary tools.
This case remains under investigation.
