Quincy, CA – California Highway Patrol officers in the Quincy area are urging drivers to slow down and stay alert after releasing new statistics showing hundreds of traffic crashes across local roadways in 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol Quincy Office, officers made 7,853 enforcement contacts throughout 2025, resulting in 157 arrests for driving under the influence and 53 additional arrests tied to other violations. Officers also issued hundreds of citations for a wide range of traffic-related offenses.
Despite those enforcement efforts, the area experienced 261 traffic crashes, including five fatal collisions, according to CHP. Authorities say many of the crashes were completely preventable and were caused by unsafe driving behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving, and right-of-way violations.
CHP officials noted that the growing number of incidents prompted leadership to request additional staffing. The request was approved, and over the past year and a half, the Quincy CHP office has received more than a dozen new officers to help increase patrols and enforcement aimed at reducing crashes across Plumas County and surrounding Northern California roadways.
As traffic volumes increase, CHP is asking drivers to do their part to help save lives by following three key reminders:
- Slow down
- Avoid distractions while driving
- Never drive under the influence
Officers say they will continue stepped-up enforcement efforts across the region to improve roadway safety and reduce serious and fatal crashes.
Residents traveling through the Quincy area or nearby communities are encouraged to plan ahead, drive cautiously, and report dangerous driving when it is safe to do so.
