Quad Cities, IA/IL – The Quad Cities region faces an extended period of heavy rain beginning Sunday, with over 2 inches expected through Tuesday. Local authorities are urging residents to exercise caution on roadways, especially along I-74, as intense downpours could lead to localized flooding and hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that this weather pattern may affect daily commutes, weekend activities, and even Election Day plans.
According to the NWS, rain is forecasted to intensify overnight Saturday into Sunday, with thunderstorms possible by morning. Showers are expected to continue throughout Sunday, with peak rainfall reaching between three-quarters and one inch by nightfall. Southeast winds may pick up, adding to the challenge for drivers navigating slippery and potentially flooded roads. Those planning to vote early are encouraged to take precautions and check the weather before heading out.
Heavy rain is set to persist through Monday, with showers and thunderstorms bringing an additional inch of rainfall. Some storms could produce especially intense downpours, heightening the risk of localized flooding. As Monday night progresses, heavy rain remains likely, adding to already saturated ground conditions and increasing concerns for flash flooding in low-lying areas.
By Tuesday, showers may continue through the early afternoon before tapering off in the evening. Highs throughout the stormy period will range from the upper 50s to low 70s, with nighttime lows in the 40s to 50s, according to NWS.
As the Quad Cities transitions to Central Standard Time this weekend, residents are reminded to set their clocks back one hour on Saturday night. With rain and flood risks on the horizon, locals are urged to stay informed on updated forecasts and follow safety protocols to avoid waterlogged roadways and potential hazards.
