Joliet, IL – A Plainfield man was taken into custody in Joliet after a 59-year-old man was allegedly stabbed 10 times near a busy intersection.
According to the Joliet Police Department, officers responded to a stabbing call at 4:26 p.m. on Saturday near Cass Street and Eastern Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the victim with multiple stab wounds. Authorities believe Dejon Weems, 32, allegedly stabbed the man during a fight before fleeing the scene on foot.
Police say Weems was found shortly afterward in the 200 block of Benton Street and was arrested following a brief chase. Officers recovered a small sword-like blade and a pocketknife during a subsequent search of Weems.
The victim was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department and was listed in critical but stable condition. Investigators determined the victim had been stabbed more than 10 times during the altercation.
The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office later approved a charge of attempted murder against Weems. He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
