Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – January snowfall totals reached 18.1 inches across Pittsburgh, heavily impacting travel corridors including Interstates 376, 79, and 279.

According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh, the final January 2026 snowfall measurement places the city’s monthly total at 18.1 inches, making it Pittsburgh’s snowiest January since 2022 and the 23rd snowiest January on record. Officials noted that snowfall was not evenly distributed throughout the month.

The most significant contributor was a single snowstorm on January 25, which accounted for 62% of the entire month’s snowfall. That event alone delivered widespread accumulation that affected regional traffic flow, including ramps and surface streets feeding into I-376 and I-279 during peak travel periods.

Season-to-date, Pittsburgh has now recorded 37.0 inches of snow through the end of January. The National Weather Service said this marks the snowiest season-to-date total since 2021 and ranks as the 16th snowiest through January in city history. Approximately 30% of the winter’s total snowfall so far fell during the January 25 storm.

Meteorologists emphasized that while snowfall frequency was limited, individual storms were impactful, leading to brief but intense disruptions for commuters and young workers traveling daily through downtown corridors and surrounding suburbs.

The National Weather Service noted that the remaining 70% of seasonal snowfall has accumulated gradually outside the late-January storm, reinforcing the importance of preparedness even during quieter weather stretches.

No additional snowfall outlook or forecast projections were included in the update. The data reflects final observed totals as of January’s conclusion.
