Pierce County, WA – A late-night police pursuit through Bonney Lake ended dramatically early Saturday when deputies rescued two suspects trapped inside a smoking stolen truck, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies spotted the stolen box truck around 12:45 a.m. Saturday on 120th Street East near 198th Avenue East. When a traffic stop was attempted, the suspects allegedly fled, leading deputies on a wild chase through the foothills area. After several PIT maneuvers, the truck was forced off the road.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies noticed the two male suspects trapped inside the cab as smoke began to pour from the vehicle. Fire crews were called to assist, and deputies broke through the windshield to help the men crawl out through a small hole.
Both suspects were taken to a safe area and treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being transported to a nearby hospital. The 42-year-old driver was later booked into the Pierce County Jail on charges including possession of stolen property, eluding, and assault on an officer. The 38-year-old passenger was released for medical care, and warrants will be forwarded for his arrest.
The box truck was towed from the scene as deputies continued their investigation.
