Philadelphia, Pa. – Commuters across Philadelphia could face slick roads Wednesday afternoon as scattered showers and thunderstorms move through the region, bringing bursts of heavy rain and gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service, showers are expected to begin by early afternoon Wednesday, with storms most likely between 2 p.m. and midnight. The chance of rain is 40% during the day, increasing to 50% Wednesday night. While rainfall totals should remain under a tenth of an inch for most areas, stronger storms may produce heavier downpours and localized flooding.

Northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph will accompany the storms, potentially causing minor travel delays on I-95, the Schuylkill Expressway, and surrounding highways. Drivers are urged to slow down during downpours and avoid flooded underpasses. Evening flights out of Philadelphia International Airport may also face delays.

Conditions improve Thursday, though a slight chance of showers lingers. Skies clear out by Friday, with highs reaching the low 80s, setting up a dry and sunny weekend for eastern Pennsylvania.

Showers could return briefly Sunday, but forecasters expect mostly dry weather into early next week.
