PHILADELPHIA – Southeastern Pennsylvania will heat up Sunday with highs near 92 degrees before storm chances move back into the region overnight and into Monday. Drivers and commuters in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs should prepare for scattered thunderstorms, some arriving during the Monday afternoon rush.
According to the National Weather Service, storms may develop between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday, with another round possible after 2 p.m. Rainfall amounts will generally stay below a quarter inch, though stronger storms could bring heavier downpours and gusty winds. The chance of precipitation sits near 40 percent.
Monday night remains unsettled with additional thunderstorms possible after 11 p.m., keeping skies mostly cloudy and lows near 66. On Tuesday, the region will see slightly cooler temperatures with highs near 76, but another chance of showers continues into the evening.
Storm chances return Wednesday, with showers and thunderstorms likely during the afternoon and evening before drier conditions move in by Thursday. Residents should plan for quick changes in weather and avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorm windows.
More showers could arrive late in the week, but the National Weather Service says drier and seasonable conditions are expected by Friday.
