PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A strong cold front racing through the region late Wednesday will bring powerful winds and potential power disruptions across eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Gusts could reach 55 to 60 mph tonight as the front sweeps through, followed by sharply colder air and very low water levels on tidal waters.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, southwest winds will strengthen through late afternoon before shifting northwest behind the front. A narrow line of showers may accompany the frontal passage between 6 p.m. and midnight, capable of briefly stronger gusts and isolated tree damage.
Wind Advisories and localized High Wind Warnings cover much of southeastern Pennsylvania, central and southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware. The highest gusts—near 60 mph—are expected from the Philadelphia metro to coastal New Jersey. Forecasters warn of scattered power outages, downed branches, and difficult travel for high-profile vehicles on I-95, the New Jersey Turnpike, and Delaware Memorial Bridge.
“Blow-out tides,” or extremely low water levels, are also possible overnight into Thursday morning along the Delaware River and coastal bays. Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices, and use caution during the evening commute. Winds will gradually ease Thursday but temperatures will remain sharply cooler.
