Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Drivers along I-95 and I-76 could see visibility suddenly drop below a quarter mile early Wednesday, creating hazardous conditions during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, low clouds, fog and periods of drizzle will linger through midmorning Wednesday across southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and northern Delaware. Visibility may dip below 1,320 feet at times, especially before 9 a.m., before gradual improvement late in the morning.
In Philadelphia, Camden and Wilmington, damp roads combined with fog could slow travel on I-95, I-476 and I-295. Conditions may fluctuate block by block, particularly near rivers and low-lying stretches where moisture collects. Motorists should expect reduced sight distance on bridges and elevated roadways as well.
Scattered showers redevelop later Wednesday afternoon and continue into the evening. While rainfall amounts are expected to remain light, intermittent downpours could briefly reduce visibility again during the evening drive. A developing temperature gradient across the region will keep cooler air locked in north of the city, while milder air pushes into southern New Jersey and Delaware.
Drivers should use low-beam headlights, allow extra stopping distance and avoid sudden lane changes in fog. Pedestrians and cyclists should wear reflective gear due to reduced visibility.
Clouds and occasional showers persist into Thursday, with additional fog possible during the early morning hours. Travelers should monitor updates in case visibility worsens or additional advisories are issued.
