Peotone, IL – Peotone Elementary School (PES) students and staff were impacted by a late notification of a boil water order earlier this week, according to a letter issued by the district’s superintendent.
Brandon Owens, Superintendent of Schools, issued a letter on Thursday, April 11th, informing the school community that the district was notified of the boil order from Aqua earlier that day. The advisory was a precautionary measure due to a drop in the water system’s pressure below 20 PSI. In response, the school immediately turned off the water fountains and distributed emergency water bottles to all students and staff. However, the district learned that the boil order had been in effect since Thursday morning, April 10th.
Owens expressed regret over the delayed notification, acknowledging that it was an unacceptable situation. He emphasized that proper notification channels were not followed, and as a result, the district was unable to take immediate action until hours after the advisory was issued.
The district is currently evaluating the breakdown in communication and is working to implement new safeguards to prevent similar situations in the future. Owens apologized to PES families, staff, and students for the inconvenience caused by the delayed response and assured that steps would be taken to prevent further issues.
The precautionary boil order advisory has since been lifted.
