PEOTONE – The Fire Protection District’s Board of Trustees will host a town hall Wednesday, September 14 at 7 p.m. at Peotone High School for residents.
The town hall event will focus on a referendum appearing on the November ballot that, if approved, would consolidate it with the Manhattan Fire Protection District.
“The Board will be working in the coming weeks to share information and facts with residents about the reasons why joining forces with a partnering district is the best approach to address personnel shortages that leave the Peotone station unacceptably understaffed too often.” said Peotone Fire Protection District in a press release Friday.
Residents attending the event will learn more about the challenges faced on a daily basis by the understaffed Peotone unit and why consolidation would be a benefit the community.
The question “Shall the Peotone Fire Protection m District dissolve and be consolidated into the Manhattan Fire Protection District?” will be addressed in the form of a yes or no question this November.
If approved by the majority, Peotone would consolidate with the Manhattan Fire Protection District.
An effort to consolidate the two units in June was not approved by voters.
