Peoria, IL – Peoria police announced a major bust this week, arresting 10 alleged members of the “Snakes,” including multiple juveniles, following a two-year investigation into violent crimes in the city. The Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, in collaboration with the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office, linked the group to three murders, 12 shootings, and widespread gun violence.

According to Police Chief Eric Echevarria, the investigation led to charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, among others, for four adults and six juveniles tied to the organization. Authorities also seized 18 firearms, some illegally modified for fully automatic firing.

Chief Echevarria commended the joint efforts of law enforcement agencies, including SWAT and ATF units, that gathered evidence and helped solve two cold-case murders from 2023. He warned that law enforcement remains vigilant, saying, “If we don’t catch you today, we may be waiting until tomorrow.”

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
