PEORIA, IL – A 22-year-old man was shot in the leg late Wednesday night in Peoria after police responded to reports of multiple gunshots on the city’s south side.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers were dispatched around 11:08 p.m. to the 1200 block of East Virginia Avenue following a ShotSpotter alert that detected about 12 rounds of gunfire. While heading to the scene, officers were informed that a man with a gunshot wound had been located in the 2300 block of North Prospect Road in front of a residence.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said members of the Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Scene Unit, and Patrol Unit were called in to process the area and begin an investigation.

At this time, police said there is no suspect information available. The incident remains under active investigation.
