Two juveniles were arrested following a vehicular hijacking and crash Friday night in Peoria. Around 10:20 p.m., Peoria Police responded to a report of an aggravated vehicle hijacking in the 5300 block of W. Haymeadow Place. The vehicle’s owner, an adult male, told police he was approached by two masked individuals who stole his vehicle at gunpoint.
According to Peoria Police, officers located the stolen vehicle near Timberedge Drive and Orange Prairie Road. When they attempted to stop it, the suspects fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit. The stolen vehicle crashed at War Memorial Drive and the entrance ramp to I-74 eastbound. A 14-year-old suspect was apprehended at the scene, while a 15-year-old suspect fled on foot but was captured shortly after.
Both juveniles were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the crash. Officers recovered two firearms, including one with an extended magazine. The suspects face multiple charges, including armed vehicular hijacking, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and armed robbery.
