Peoria, IL – A 16-year-old driver was cited after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash that injured a 5-year-old child riding an electric bicycle Monday evening, according to the Peoria Police Department.
According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded at approximately 7:20 p.m. Monday, July 20, to the 1600 block of North Great Oak Drive following reports of a hit-and-run traffic crash involving a child.
When officers arrived, they found a 5-year-old boy who had been struck by a vehicle while riding an electric bicycle. Police said the child sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Authorities said the vehicle involved had left the scene before officers arrived.
During the investigation, officers identified and located the driver, a 16-year-old male. According to police, the juvenile was arrested for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failure to report a personal injury accident.
Police said the teen was issued citations for the offenses and later released into the custody of a parent.
The allegations against the juvenile have been made by law enforcement, and any citations or charges must be resolved through the judicial process.
