Peoria County, IL – A domestic disturbance in rural Peoria County escalated into an armed standoff early Sunday morning, prompting a multi-agency response that ended with a safe arrest and no reported injuries.

According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 3:00 a.m. Sunday, April 19, 2026, to a home in the 13000 block of West Route 90 for a report of a man allegedly armed with a gun. Responding deputies spoke with individuals at the residence who reported a domestic dispute involving homeowner Brandon March and a female victim who remained inside.

Authorities say the situation escalated after March allegedly returned from a local bar, leading to a physical altercation and him arming himself with a shotgun. Deputies attempted to make contact multiple times, but March and the victim did not respond. Due to the presence of firearms and the ongoing domestic violence concerns, the Central Illinois Emergency Response Team (CIERT) was called in.

Specialized units, including negotiators, tactical personnel, and drone operators, worked throughout the morning to manage the situation and maintain awareness inside and around the property.

By approximately 4:00 p.m. Sunday, officials confirmed the victim was safely removed and March was taken into custody without incident. No deputies, CIERT personnel, or nearby residents were injured.

A search of the residence led to the recovery of two firearms, including a shotgun and an AR-15-style rifle. According to authorities, March—who is a previously convicted felon—was booked into the Peoria County Jail on charges including domestic battery, aggravated assault with a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

Sheriff Chris Watkins praised the response, citing coordination and tactical discipline as key factors in safely resolving the incident.
