Bradford, PA – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for McKean and Warren counties from late Wednesday night through Friday evening, with forecasters warning of heavy lake-effect snow that could cause major Thanksgiving travel disruptions across northwestern Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, snowfall totals of 6 inches or more are possible, with wind gusts up to 40 mph creating areas of blowing and drifting snow. The heaviest bands are expected to develop early Thanksgiving morning and persist through Friday, particularly along higher elevations and downwind of Lake Erie.
Forecasters caution that roads could quickly become slick and snow-covered, with visibility dropping sharply during snow squalls. Travel conditions may deteriorate rapidly along U.S. Route 6, Interstate 86, and Route 219, especially during peak holiday travel times.
Officials advise residents and travelers to monitor forecast updates, delay unnecessary travel, and prepare for possible power outages due to heavy, wet snow and gusty winds. Motorists should keep emergency supplies—including blankets, food, and a flashlight—in their vehicles.
The Winter Storm Watch may be upgraded to a Warning as forecast confidence increases.
