Indiana, Pennsylvania – Snow will overspread western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia after 9 p.m. Tuesday, dropping up to 5 inches by early Wednesday afternoon and creating slick conditions for the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday for Venango, Forest, Clarion, Jefferson and Indiana counties, along with the higher elevations of Westmoreland and Fayette counties in Pennsylvania and eastern Preston and eastern Tucker counties in West Virginia. Snow totals will range from 2 to 5 inches, with wind gusts up to 35 mph producing areas of blowing snow.
Higher terrain communities including Ligonier, Donegal, Ohiopyle, Canaan Valley and Davis could see the heaviest accumulation. Roads such as U.S. Route 219, Interstate 80 near Clarion and Route 28 near Brookville may become snow-covered overnight. A brief mix with rain is possible by late Wednesday morning, especially in lower elevations.
Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and monitor 511PA or WV 511 for updates. Snow tapers by early Wednesday afternoon, but slick spots may linger beyond the advisory period.
