Philadelphia, PA – Southeastern Pennsylvania braces for a windy start to the new year, as gusts up to 50 mph are expected today. A wind advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m., covering portions of northern Delaware, southern New Jersey, and southeast Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service, strong west winds of 15 to 25 mph will develop this morning, intensifying by the afternoon. The highest gusts will impact areas along I-78 and other major roadways, where unsecured objects and tree limbs may be blown around. Motorists, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should exercise caution as driving conditions may become hazardous.
Temperatures will peak near 47°F today before dropping to a low of 32°F tonight. Winds will diminish slightly overnight but remain breezy, with gusts near 20 mph. The weather will clear on Thursday, offering sunny skies and a high near 40°F.
Looking ahead, cooler temperatures will dominate the rest of the week, with highs in the mid-30s this weekend. Patchy clouds are expected Friday and Saturday, but precipitation remains unlikely until Monday when a chance of snow may arrive.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, holiday decorations, and other loose items to prevent wind damage. The strong gusts may also cause sporadic power outages; prepare accordingly by charging devices and having flashlights on hand.
