Pittsburgh, PA – A winter system is set to bring snow showers to the Pittsburgh area on Thursday before temperatures rise heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow Thursday morning will transition into heavier snow showers by the afternoon and evening. Visibility may drop to under a mile at times, with localized accumulations of 1 to 2 inches expected. Northwest winds could gust up to 23 mph, making for slick roads during the evening commute.

Friday will see mostly cloudy skies with a high near 28°F, followed by a colder night with lows dipping to 16°F. However, a warming trend arrives Saturday, with sunny skies and a high of 36°F. By Sunday and Monday, temperatures will climb even further, reaching the mid-40s with a chance of rain.

Travelers should use caution Thursday evening as snowfall could impact road conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. The weekend warm-up provides a break from the Arctic cold, but wet conditions could return early next week.
