Pittsburgh, PA – A severe thunderstorm threat looms over southern Pennsylvania Monday evening, with Pittsburgh and areas south of I-80 under a Level 2 risk through 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, damaging winds and large hail are the primary hazards expected between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Isolated tornadoes are also possible, particularly along and south of Interstate 70. The NWS urges residents to monitor alerts and stay weather-aware throughout the evening.
The affected zone stretches from Pittsburgh through Washington, Uniontown, and into portions of southwestern Pennsylvania. The Level 2 designation signals an increased chance of severe storms, which could be locally intense. These storms may produce wind gusts exceeding 58 mph and hail larger than one inch in diameter.
Travelers are advised to delay unnecessary trips during the storm window, and outdoor events may be impacted. Residents should secure loose objects and have multiple ways to receive emergency weather alerts.
Though April brings frequent rain to Pennsylvania, storms of this intensity are less common this early in the spring season. Stay indoors during warnings and seek shelter if conditions deteriorate.
The NWS continues to monitor developments and will issue updates as conditions evolve.
