Pennsylvania — Gray skies hang low over the Delaware Valley as damp air lingers, but winter is moving in fast. Wet pavement today sets the stage for a sharper change as colder air presses into eastern Pennsylvania ahead of Friday.
Clouds dominate early, and temperatures climb into the low 50s before turning cooler. Rain develops later, and by evening it begins to mix with snow as colder air filters in. Roads may turn slushy for a time, especially north and west of Philadelphia. Visibility could drop briefly during heavier bursts. Plan extra time if driving late.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures fall toward freezing as the rain-snow mix tapers off. Snow accumulation remains light, generally under an inch, but timing matters. As temperatures slide, untreated roads, bridges, and ramps may become slick.
Thursday stays breezy and colder. Highs reach the mid-30s, though it feels colder with west winds gusting over 20 mph. Any lingering moisture freezes quickly after sunset. This is prime flash-freeze territory, especially on I-95 ramps, I-76, and neighborhood side streets.
Thursday night turns sharply colder under partly cloudy skies. Lows dip near 21 degrees, locking in icy patches. Friday brings sunshine, but little warmth. Highs recover only into the mid-30s. Shaded sidewalks and parking lots stay slick through the morning commute.
Friday night remains cold, with lows near 29. Saturday trends milder, though clouds return. A chance of rain develops during the afternoon, with highs near 43. By Saturday night, colder air creeps back in, and rain may mix with snow before ending.
Looking ahead to Jan. 19–23, NOAA outlooks show near-normal temperatures but rising precipitation chances across the Mid-Atlantic. More active winter weather could follow.
Heading out late or early? Watch for icy spots. Are you seeing slick roads where you live?
