Pittsburgh, PA – Strong thunderstorms could impact much of southern Pennsylvania late Monday, bringing the risk of damaging winds and large hail across communities south of Interstate 80.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather threat is in place for April 14, 2025. The agency expects increased storm activity beginning Monday afternoon and lasting into the evening, particularly for areas including Pittsburgh, New Philadelphia, and Morgantown. The highest confidence for severe activity lies south of I-80, while locations farther north and east, such as Clarion and Oil City, are under a lower-level risk.

Hazards include wind gusts up to 75 mph, hail of at least 2 inches, and locally heavy downpours. These conditions may lead to localized power outages and travel disruptions during the evening commute. A few storms could become significant, with potential for isolated tornado activity not ruled out.

Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and enable weather alerts on mobile devices. Secure loose outdoor objects, avoid travel during active storms, and move to interior rooms if warnings are issued.

The threat is expected to taper off early Tuesday. Updates will continue as confidence and timing are refined.
