Philadelphia, PA – A surge of summer heat will grip the region through midweek, with temperatures climbing 5 to 10 degrees higher than Monday — and pushing near 90°F by Wednesday afternoon, especially southeast of I-95.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, Tuesday highs will reach the upper 70s to low 80s across Philadelphia, Trenton, Wilmington, and Atlantic City. Wednesday will be even hotter, with widespread 88–90°F readings expected from Allentown to Dover and interior South Jersey.

The warming trend sets the stage for potential strong thunderstorms late Wednesday and again on Thursday. Forecasters caution residents in southeastern Pennsylvania, central and southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware to stay alert for rapidly changing weather and possible severe thunderstorm watches.

High heat and humidity may create unstable air masses during the late afternoons, increasing the risk for damaging winds and heavy downpours. Drivers along I-95 and US-322 should anticipate slowdowns or localized flooding during evening commutes.

Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and monitor alerts from emergency management agencies. Air conditioning use is expected to spike, especially in urban heat zones.

Hot conditions persist into Thursday, with more storms possible.
