Pennsylvania wakes up under a cold gray sky, and the air still bites across Centre County. Temperatures hover near 30 degrees this morning in State College, and wind chills sit closer to 20. Sidewalks feel stiff underfoot, and shaded spots remain slick from refreeze.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, clouds will gradually thin through midday with highs reaching 37 degrees. North winds stay between 5 and 8 mph. Skies clear tonight, and temperatures fall sharply to around 17 degrees. That hard freeze sets up another round of flash freezing on untreated roads and campus walkways by early Monday.
Monday starts mostly cloudy, then turns brighter with highs near 35. Calm winds shift south in the afternoon. Conditions change late Monday night. A chance of snow develops between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., then freezing rain becomes possible toward daybreak Tuesday. Even light icing could create slick stretches on I-80 and Route 322.
Tuesday brings freezing rain early, then plain rain after 1 p.m. as temperatures rise to 39 degrees. Rain continues Tuesday night with lows near 38. By Wednesday, showers linger with highs jumping to 52. Thursday surges to 61 degrees, offering a strong March warm spell.
The sharp swing reflects a national contrast. Arctic air presses into the East while record warmth builds in the Southwest. Here at home, it’s a week until clocks spring forward at 2 a.m. March 8. Longer daylight and a milder 6–10 day outlook hint at early spring warmth settling in.
