Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Tuesday’s afternoon commute through western Pennsylvania could get slippery fast as storms surge across the region with heavy rain and thunder.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, showers and storms will develop after 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, with wind gusts and downpours likely into the evening. Rainfall could exceed one-quarter inch per hour in isolated spots, increasing flash flood risk near poor-drainage zones and low-lying roads like Route 22 and parts of I-376.

Patchy fog could return Tuesday night, especially in river valleys. However, the main concern will be water pooling on roads and potential delays to travel and evening events. The NWS notes that conditions should clear by sunrise Wednesday.

Temperatures will stay mild despite the rain, with highs near 77°F Tuesday and lows in the upper 50s Tuesday night. Sunshine returns briefly Wednesday and Thursday, bringing a welcome summer break before more storm chances arrive heading into the weekend.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads and secure outdoor gear before storms arrive. Keep phones charged and stay alert to flash flood warnings.

More severe weather is not expected after Tuesday, but unsettled conditions may return by Friday night.
