Philadelphia, PA – Southeast Pennsylvania is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch this Friday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) predicting potentially damaging wind gusts through the evening.
The watch, effective from 4:05 PM EDT until 9:00 PM EDT, covers an area approximately 60 miles north and south of a line from 40 miles west-southwest of Dover, DE, to 20 miles north-northeast of Lakehurst, NJ. Scattered thunderstorms are expected, with isolated wind gusts up to 65 mph posing a significant threat.
The NWS Storm Prediction Center also warns of extreme turbulence and hail up to 1 inch in diameter. Residents should be aware that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms, which can sometimes lead to tornadoes.
