Pittsburgh, PA – Residents across western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio should prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures tonight and into early Friday morning, as the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a Frost Advisory followed by a Freeze Watch for much of the region.
According to the National Weather Service, the Frost Advisory will remain in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures expected to dip into the mid-30s. A Freeze Watch will then take effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, with lows projected to reach the upper 20s to low 30s in some areas.
The advisory and watch include Butler, Clarion, Indiana, Lawrence, Fayette, and Westmoreland counties in Pennsylvania, along with Columbiana and Jefferson counties in Ohio. Rural and low-lying areas are likely to experience the coldest conditions.
Meteorologists warn that frost and freezing temperatures could damage or kill unprotected crops, plants, and other sensitive vegetation. Gardeners and farmers are urged to cover outdoor plants or bring them indoors before nightfall.
Beyond the cold spell, dry weather is expected through Sunday, with daytime highs gradually returning to the 60s by the weekend, according to the NWS forecast.
Residents can monitor local updates at weather.gov/Pittsburgh or on the @NWSPittsburgh social media channels.
