Binghamton, N.Y. – Triple-digit heat index values are expected to grip central New York and northeastern Pennsylvania through Wednesday, with little relief even after sunset.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from noon Sunday through 8 p.m. Wednesday, with heat index values reaching up to 104°F. The warning covers a wide area, including Syracuse, Binghamton, Oneonta, Elmira, and Scranton, PA.
Monday is projected to be the most dangerous day, with daytime highs soaring into the 90s and overnight lows stuck in the 70s. Without a cooling break, the risk of heat-related illness rises, especially for seniors, outdoor workers, and those without air conditioning.
Cities such as Ithaca, Wilkes-Barre, and Oneida are urging residents to check on vulnerable neighbors and limit outdoor activity. Health officials recommend staying hydrated, using fans or AC if available, and seeking public cooling centers if necessary.
The Heat Advisory remains active until 8 p.m. Wednesday, and additional warnings may follow if conditions persist.
