Lycoming County, PA – Pennsylvania State Police are renewing efforts to solve the 1997 homicide of a 10-year-old girl, offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
According to PSP Troop F in Montoursville, investigators continue to pursue leads in the killing of Jolene Faye Witt, whose case remains unsolved nearly three decades later.
Authorities said Witt was last seen early on Sunday, July 27, 1997, inside her family’s home on Grant Street in Muncy. Investigators believe she was either taken or left the residence between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle, according to police.
Witt was reported missing later that same day. Weeks later, on Saturday, September 6, 1997, her body was discovered in a wooded area along Route 554 in Armstrong Township by two hikers.
A forensic pathologist determined her death to be a homicide, though investigators have not publicly released additional details about the circumstances.
State police say tips from the public remain critical in advancing the case. Anyone with information is urged to contact PSP Montoursville at 570-368-5700 or submit tips online. Officials noted that cash rewards may be available for information that leads to an arrest or helps solve the case.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue seeking answers in the decades-old killing.
