Pittsburgh, PA – A strong cold front moving through Pennsylvania today will bring gusty winds, showers, and possible thunderstorms, creating hazardous travel conditions. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect starting Thursday afternoon, with snowfall expected to impact parts of western Pennsylvania, including areas along I-70 and the Laurel Highlands.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), rain will transition to snow by Thursday evening, with accumulations of up to six inches likely in higher elevations. Gusty winds will accompany the storm, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of power outages. Drivers are urged to use caution, especially during evening commutes and along mountainous roadways.

Temperatures will drop significantly starting Thursday, with highs reaching just 42°F. Snow showers will continue into Friday, with intermittent rain expected in lower elevations. By Saturday, colder conditions persist, with highs around 48°F and a chance for more snow. Sunday will bring partial clearing, but highs will remain below 50°F.

For residents in the Laurel Highlands and neighboring areas, the NWS predicts a 70% or greater chance of significant snowfall, with isolated pockets potentially receiving more than six inches. Those in affected areas should prepare for slippery roads, delays, and potential impacts to outdoor activities.

Stay updated on weather alerts and be cautious on roadways as conditions deteriorate. Winter storm preparedness tips include having emergency kits, monitoring forecasts, and limiting travel during peak storm hours.
