Raleigh, NC – A rainy and breezy day is in store for central North Carolina as a cold front approaches the region. Residents should prepare for gusty winds this evening, with temperatures plummeting into the low 40s by nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers will persist through late afternoon with a 60% chance of precipitation. Winds are expected to pick up, reaching 30 to 35 mph as the cold front moves in after sunset. Motorists traveling along I-40 and surrounding roads are urged to drive with caution due to slick conditions.

By tonight, skies will begin to clear, and the mercury will drop sharply, reaching lows of 38 to 40 degrees across the area. The sudden temperature shift could make for a chilly start to Thursday.

Thursday will usher in sunny skies, but temperatures will remain cool, with highs near 56 degrees. Breezy conditions are likely, with gusts up to 24 mph expected during the day. Thursday night will be even colder, as temperatures dip to the low 30s.

The extended forecast predicts mostly sunny weather through the weekend. Highs on Friday and Saturday will hover in the mid-50s, with nighttime lows ranging from 33 to 38 degrees. By Sunday, temperatures are expected to rebound slightly, reaching a pleasant 62 degrees under clear skies.

Prepare for tonight’s cooler temperatures by dressing warmly, and check for updates on changing weather conditions.
