Binghamton, NY – A wintry mix of snow and ice is set to create hazardous travel conditions across portions of New York and Pennsylvania early Monday, with impacts expected during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. EDT Monday for Delaware, Sullivan, and Northern Oneida Counties in New York, as well as Northern and Southern Wayne and Pike Counties in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Forecasters expect snow accumulations of up to two inches in some northern areas, including Boonville in Oneida County, and ice accretions near one-tenth of an inch, particularly in higher elevation zones. Conditions may worsen on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads, increasing the likelihood of slippery surfaces.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission are urging motorists to reduce speeds and allow for extra travel time. In New York, drivers can check updated road conditions by dialing 511.
Residents in affected counties should prepare for reduced visibility, allow extra time for Monday morning travel, and take caution while driving in higher terrain, where impacts may be more pronounced.
