Gaylord, MI – A late-season winter storm is sweeping across Northern Michigan, bringing snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, multiple counties in Northern Lower and Eastern Upper Michigan remain under a Winter Weather Advisory until 8 PM EDT Monday, March 24. Affected areas include Manistee, Wexford, Missaukee, Alpena, Cheboygan, Mackinac, Otsego, and surrounding counties.

Snowfall is expected to reach 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher totals in elevated regions like Wexford County. Winds are forecast to gust up to 40 mph, creating blowing snow and reduced visibility on roadways.

Roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Authorities urge motorists to slow down and allow extra travel time, particularly on untreated rural roads.

This system marks a sharp return to winter conditions, disrupting typical March patterns. Residents should monitor local alerts and consider limiting travel where possible. Prepare by keeping extra blankets, food, and emergency supplies in vehicles if travel is necessary.
