Pendleton, Ore. – Thunderstorms and gusty winds could disrupt travel across Umatilla County on Sunday before a stretch of dry, sunny weather returns to eastern Oregon early in the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, showers are expected through Sunday evening with thunderstorms possible between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Some storms may bring wind gusts up to 25 mph and brief heavy rainfall, though most areas will only see a quarter inch or less.

Localized downpours could cause slick roadways on Interstate 84 and Highway 11, especially in Pendleton and surrounding rural areas. Evening plans may also be interrupted as another round of scattered showers lingers through late Sunday night.

By Monday, skies will clear with highs in the mid-70s and calmer winds, offering relief after the soggy weekend. A warming trend takes hold midweek, with highs climbing into the low-80s Tuesday and topping out near 84 by Wednesday. Residents can expect mostly clear nights in the upper 40s to low 50s, making for cool evenings.

Showers should end completely by late Sunday, and forecasters say no additional alerts are expected once the system moves out.
