Charleston, WV – Cooler and drier weather is expected to return to northern West Virginia this week, with patchy frost predicted overnight. The National Weather Service in Charleston reported that temperatures could dip into the mid-to-low 30s in the mountainous regions tonight, prompting concerns for frost formation.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s high temperatures will hover around 60 degrees across much of the state. However, by tonight, northern mountain areas could experience temperatures as low as 35 degrees, with the coldest spots potentially dipping to 32 degrees. This significant drop in temperature brings the likelihood of frost, especially in the highest elevations.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to protect sensitive plants and take precautions with outdoor water sources. Patchy frost can damage crops and plants, which could be a concern for those with late-season gardens. The National Weather Service recommends covering plants or moving them indoors to avoid frost damage. This cold snap is expected to persist throughout the week, with similar temperatures forecasted in the coming days, heightening frost concerns across the region.
