Portland, OR – A powerful winter storm is set to impact the Cascades of Oregon and Washington, with heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions expected through Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Portland, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 11 p.m. Thursday for the Cascades of Lane, Marion, and Linn Counties. Snow accumulations between 6 and 12 inches are expected, with elevations above 4,500 feet potentially seeing up to 18 inches. A Winter Storm Watch follows from late Thursday night through Saturday afternoon, where snow totals could reach 1 to 2 feet with wind gusts up to 35 mph.

A separate Winter Weather Advisory remains active until 11 p.m. Thursday for the North Oregon and South Washington Cascades, including Government Camp and Mt. St. Helens. Accumulations of 6 to 11 inches are expected, with a Winter Storm Watch in place for late Thursday through Saturday, predicting an additional 12 to 18 inches.

Authorities warn of slick and hazardous roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Travelers are advised to postpone trips if possible and carry a winter emergency kit, including blankets, food, and tire chains.
