Seattle, WA – The Pacific Northwest is bracing for 48 hours of snow as a strong early-November system targets the North Cascades, with totals reaching up to a foot by Friday morning. The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Friday for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit Counties, including the Mount Baker area and Highway 20 corridor.
Forecasters expect 4 to 8 inches of snow along the Cascade crest, with 8 to 10 inches possible near Mount Baker. Snow is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon, intensify overnight, and continue intermittently through Friday morning.
According to the Weather Service, travel along Highway 20 will likely be difficult, especially near the mountain passes, where reduced visibility, slick roads, and accumulating snow will persist through Thursday night.
Drivers are advised to use extreme caution, carry tire chains, and allow extra travel time. Power outages and temporary road closures are also possible as wet, heavy snow accumulates across higher terrain.
This storm marks the first extended snow event of November for the North Cascades and could be a sign of a snowier start to the winter season across the Pacific Northwest.
