Boston, MA – The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton has issued a Storm Warning for much of the southern New England coast, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and portions of Long Island waters, in effect from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.
Forecasters warn of west winds between 40 and 50 knots, with gusts up to 60 knots and seas rising to 10 to 15 feet. The warning covers key marine zones including Boston Harbor, Cape Cod Bay, Massachusetts Bay, Nantucket Sound, Buzzards Bay, Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island Sound, and the waters south of Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island.
The most hazardous conditions are expected from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday, when storm-force winds and steep seas could capsize or severely damage vessels. Visibility will be reduced in heavy spray and rain as the powerful front sweeps across the New England coast.
According to the National Weather Service, mariners should remain in port, secure all vessels, and avoid open waters during the storm’s peak. Coastal residents should also prepare for strong onshore gusts and potential coastal flooding, especially along Cape Cod, the Islands, and Rhode Island’s southern shoreline.
Winds are expected to gradually weaken by late Thursday morning, though residual rough seas will continue into the afternoon.
