Springfield, Mo. – Strong to severe storms could rattle southwest Missouri by Friday afternoon, with heavy rainfall and flash flooding possible across the Ozarks through Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a prolonged period of unsettled weather is set to begin Wednesday evening, peaking with severe storm chances on Friday and again Sunday. Gusty southerly winds between 35 to 45 mph will develop Thursday, especially along and west of Highway 65, potentially affecting high-profile vehicles and unsecured outdoor items.

Cities including Springfield, Branson, West Plains, and Rolla may see multiple rounds of thunderstorms, some capable of producing damaging winds and localized flooding. Rain chances are expected to increase to 60-80% Friday through the weekend, with high temperatures ranging from the low 60s to low 80s.

Nighttime lows in the eastern Ozarks could dip into the upper 30s Tuesday night under mostly clear skies, creating wide temperature swings that may impact outdoor plans and gardening.

Residents are urged to avoid travel during storms, monitor local weather alerts, and prepare for potential power outages. Those in flood-prone areas should have evacuation plans ready and avoid driving through high water.

Thunderstorm activity could continue into early next week. Additional watches and warnings may be issued.
