Missouri – Sheets of rain and whipping winds are already reducing visibility across the Ozarks, with storms intensifying as they track east and threaten flash flooding and isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, strong to severe thunderstorms will continue through the evening with wind gusts up to 60 mph, large hail, and a slight tornado risk. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are widespread, with isolated pockets reaching 3 to 5 inches, especially along and northwest of the I-44 corridor.

In Springfield, Branson, and surrounding communities, low-water crossings and rural roads may quickly flood. Drivers along I-44, Highway 65, and Route 60 should expect standing water and sudden drops in visibility during heavier downpours. Avoid flooded roads and allow extra travel time through evening hours.

Meteorologists now warn storms may train over the same areas, increasing the flood threat. Lightning and strong wind bursts could knock down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages. Conditions may deteriorate quickly during peak storm activity.

Skies begin to clear by Sunday morning, bringing a sharp shift. Sunshine returns with highs near 69°F, but cooler air settles in overnight. Temperatures dip into the mid-30s by early Monday, raising a frost concern for gardens and sensitive plants.

The pattern flips again early next week with a steady spring warm-up. Highs climb into the low to mid-70s Monday and Tuesday, with calmer conditions and more sunshine expected.
