Binghamton, N.Y. – Snow and gusty winds are creating slick roads across the Southern Tier and northeast Pennsylvania overnight, with visibility set to drop again during the Monday commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for Broome, Chenango, Otsego and Steuben counties in New York, along with Bradford and Susquehanna counties in Pennsylvania. An additional 1 to 4 inches of snow is expected, with locally up to 5 inches in eastern Susquehanna and Otsego counties. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph, blowing snow across open roadways.

Interstate 81 through Binghamton, Route 17 near Corning and U.S. 6 around Towanda may see snow-covered stretches and brief whiteouts in heavier bursts. Rural and higher elevation roads in Oneonta and Montrose could accumulate more quickly.

Both the morning and evening commutes may be affected by slick pavement and drifting snow. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check 511NY or 511PA for the latest road updates.

Snow and wind will gradually ease late Monday, but patchy slick spots could linger into the evening hours.
