Oswego, Ill. — The Oswego Police Department has released its 2024 Annual Report, the Department shared yesterday, June 25.

The annual report compiles the department’s summary of activities in the calendar year. It includes manpower allocation, resource allocation, criminal reports, traffic reports, education, training and enforcement efforts. The document explains efforts made by the Oswego Police Department and how resources are used by the Village of Oswego.

The report shares that the Department made 12,730 traffic stops, which was an 11% increase from 2023. From the traffic stops, 53% came from an increased enforcement of “fatal four” traffic stops. The “fatal four” violations include impaired driving, speeding, using a mobile phone while driving and not wearing a seatbelt. However, traffic crashes increased in 2024.

The crime rate decreased by almost 10% from the previous year, largely coming from theft, fraud and drug violations decreasing. There was an increased call for service of about 7%.

Additionally, the Department spent 9,096 hours in training, which was a 2% increase from the year before. A new training program was implemented called Core Critical Task Training, which aimed to increase efficiency in high risk, low frequency situations.

“This annual report is a reflection of the outstanding commitment and contributions of our members, while also identifying areas where the department can grow and improve,” Oswego Chief of Police Jason Bastin said in the report.
