Orlando, Florida – Drivers across interior east central Florida are facing dangerous travel conditions early Monday as dense fog blankets major roadways, sharply reducing visibility during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning for much of inland east central Florida, excluding the immediate coast and Martin County. Visibility has dropped to around a quarter mile in several locations, including parts of the Orlando metro area, making travel hazardous before sunrise.
Fog has expanded through the early morning hours and is impacting major corridors such as Interstate 4 through downtown Orlando, along with State Road 408, State Road 417, and portions of U.S. 17-92. Florida Department of Transportation cameras show thick fog obscuring lanes and overhead signage, increasing the risk of sudden slowdowns and rear-end collisions.
Officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights rather than high beams, which can worsen visibility. Drivers are also encouraged to delay travel if possible until conditions improve.
The fog is expected to gradually thin after sunrise as temperatures rise and winds increase. Forecasters note that lingering low visibility may persist in sheltered or low-lying areas for a short time even after the advisory expires. Residents should continue monitoring local alerts as conditions evolve through the morning.
